“Copper carriage lanterns flicker and guests pause to wonder what awaits on the other side of the wrought iron gate.” While visiting Charleston, South Carolina, one of the places we had to visit was the Peninsula Grill. Why? Cake. Ultimate Coconut Cake.
Peninsula Grill’s iconic coconut cake is 12 layers of heaven. The cakes are made from scratch and it’s apparent in the best possible way.
I may have been in Charleston, but my heart belongs in Kentucky, and like any good resident of the Bluegrass State, I paired my slice of cake with a pour of Blanton’s.
Okay, I was sitting at the bar anyway and that unmistakable bottle with the little racehorse on top was calling my name.
Blanton’s is creamy vanilla on the nose with hints of caramel and butterscotch. It paired beautifully with Peninsula Grill’s coconut cake, but honestly, a pour of Blanton’s is good anytime. Cheers ?
