Jefferson’s Ocean Aged Bourbon—special wheated mash bill. Found this tasty (more on that in a minute) bourbon at my local @costco liquor store for $65. If you don’t already know, Costco liquor stores can be great sources for bourbon. Do they always have a plethora of rare bourbons on the shelves? No, but the retailer has tremendous buying power and you can find good bourbon at great prices.
Let’s get to the main event, shall we? This @jeffersonsbourbon is from Ocean Voyage 19. I love the way it tastes because they used wheat in the mash bill instead of rye. Ocean Voyage 19 traveled to 30 ports on 5 continents and crossed the equator 4 times. The contrast in temperature as the ship sailed from summer to winter and vice versatile, creating a delicious flavor profile. Extreme heat means the sugars in the corn would carmelize in the wood. The bourbon rocks back and forth on the ship going in and out of the wood. Because of this, and because the flavor profile lacks the spiciness of the rye, Ocean Voyage 19 has salted caramel corn and vanilla as its dominate flavors with a subtle, but very satisfying, wood finish.
The only way this bourbon could be any better would be if it could tell you the tales from its incredible journey.
