Lower barrel entry proof. Bigger flavor. This limited-release bourbon showcases the influence of Maker’s unique, 110 barrel entry proof (also known as BEP). It was crafted to amplify the balanced wood sugars, softer tannins and lasting finish achieved with our low 110 BEP. Special finishing staves were used to amplify notes of vanilla and sweet spice that naturally occur from lower BEPs.
Maker’s Mark exploration of wood finishing began with the creation of Maker’s Mark 46. This discovery opened new doors on how Maker’s could be expanded on while staying true to its original taste vision. Since then, Maker’s as amassed over a decade of innovation and experimentation in wood science with Maker’s Mark Private Selection and the limited releases of the Wood Finishing Series.
BOURBON & WATER | For bourbon, a lower BEP delivers more flavor, smoothness, even color. The extra water helps improve the congener concentration, which imparts flavors of caramel, vanilla and baking spice. These decrease as BEPs increase.
FIFTH & FINAL | This chapter of the Wood Finishing Series explored the nuanced techniques that helped our founders deliver on that distinct Maker’s taste vision. The next chapter will take on an entirely new theme, so keep an eye out for what’s to come.
AROMA: Toasty vanilla, subtle spice, caramel
TASTE: Bright, vanilla, brown sugar
FINISH: Medium body, balanced, rich caramel, dry baking spices
PROOF: Cask Strength (110.7)
Barrel Entry Proof (BEP) is the fifth and final bourbon in this chapter of the Wood Finishing Series. Unique, flavorful and crafted just as meticulously as our original bourbon, the Wood Finishing Series offers options to please every bourbon lover’s palate.
Each expression, including the Wood Finishing Series 2023 Release, is offered nationally but only available for a limited time. Ask your local retailer for availability in your area – and enjoy it while you can.
About Maker’s Mark Bourbon
In 1953, in Loretto, Ky., Bill Samuels, Sr., fulfilled his dream to create a handmade and delicious bourbon. He decided to make his whisky in small batches, using soft red winter wheat to enhance the softness and sweetness. He then rotated each barrel by hand for consistency and, finally, aged each barrel to taste. While he developed the bourbon, his wife Margie Samuels ideated the bourbon’s name and label, standout bottle shape, iconic and signature look that still involves hand-dipping each bottle in red wax to this day. Together as co-founders, Bill and Margie transformed bourbon from a “commodity” into a premium handmade spirit, and today Maker’s Mark® Kentucky Straight Bourbon continues to be crafted in the same, purposeful way. In recent years, Maker’s Mark has introduced thoughtful, super-premium innovations to its portfolio, including Maker’s Mark®, Maker’s Mark 46® Maker’s Mark® Cask Strength and Maker’s Mark® Private Selection, the industry’s first-ever custom barrel program. Today, Maker’s Mark is the largest distillery in the world to achieve B Corp Certification, a reflection of the brand’s dedication towards building a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
