Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey
Heaven Hill Distillery and the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience has announced the launch of Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey, the second Square 6 product produced exclusively at the artisanal distillery located inside the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey mashbill consists of 63% rye, 24% corn and 13% malted barley, making it a new recipe in the portfolio. The traditional Rye Whiskey mashbill consists of 51% rye, 35% corn and 14% malted barley.
This is the distillers first product to bear such a high rye content and is bottled at 95 proof. With notes of black tea, sweet honey, fig and molasses on the nose, along with allspice, pepper, vanilla and cardamom on the palate, this Square 6 release truly stands out when tasted alongside the first Square 6 High-Rye Bourbon released in May 2021, which also featured a new mashbill for us, consisting of 52% corn, 35% rye and 13% malted barley.
Each day, Artisanal Distiller Jodie Filiatreau distills one barrel of American Whiskey at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. He continually crafts innovative mashbills and tweaks the hand-crafted process for each recipe.
“Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey is a totally unique product, not only because of its high rye content, but also because of how it is hand-crafted on a copper pot still,” says Filiatreau. “We are excited for whiskey lovers to add this latest Square 6 release to their collections and for them to enjoy a new Heaven Hill mashbill.”
The continuation of the Evan Williams Square 6 series distilled in the one barrel per day, hand crafted, copper pot still facility is a testament to our commitment to quality, craft, innovation and tradition. And the name pays homage to the original plot of land—Square 6—where Evan Williams built Kentucky’s first commercial distillery in 1783. In 2013, the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience was built on the same block as the historic plot.
Since the building of the craft distillery, the team at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience have been patiently waiting as the barrels quietly age to maturation. During this aging process, a team of master tasters sampled each recipe at various stages until it was deemed worthy of bottling.
If you’d like to try a bottle, please note that this is a limited release. Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey will only be available in small quantities at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, as well as select Kentucky retailers.
